Cliff Self has taught violin, viola, and fiddle in Port Townsend since 1998. In addition to a thriving private studio he has conducted fiddle classes at Peninsula College, Crossroads Music, the Community YMCA, and the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Stetson University in Deland, Florida, he moved to New York City to study with the renowned violinist Ruben Varga. Upon completing his musical training he embarked on a distinguished career as both a violinist and violist, performing numerous concerts and solo recitals. For many years he toured and played with The Mantovani Orchestra, the West Virginia Symphony, Johnny Mathis, George Benson, Andy Williams, Pat Boone, and the local string band Karma Jar.

Cliff has a simple philosophy about music lessons – they should be easy, safe, and fun. Within that framework a great deal of knowledge and technique can be shared. His background as a mental health counselor combined with his unique blend of gentleness, understanding, and wit makes him an ideal teacher for students of all ages and ability levels. Whether you are interested in classical violin or viola, Suzuki style, American, Irish, or gypsy fiddle, you will find that the Music Studio of Cliff Self is right for you.

RATES: $35 per hour or $20 for 30min
