Jack Dwyer onsiteteacher

Mandolin & Banjojackdwyer

Style: bluegrass, old-time, dawg, blues and jazz.
Jack Dwyer has been playing professionally for 7 years on the east and west coasts. He has had the opportunity to study and perform with some of the greats in American music: banjo master Bill Keith (innovator of the melodic banjo technique, former Bluegrass Boy with Bill Monroe, and mentor to Bela Fleck), and jazz guitarist Mike DeMicco (of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet). Jack Studied jazz theory on scholarship at Bard College in New York and attended the 2005 Mandolin Symposium, hosted by David Grisman and Mike Marshall in Santa Cruz, CA. In 2003, Jack played mandolin with Peter Rowan, Bill Keith, Larry Parker, Tony Granier and Jay Ungar, to start the Woodstock Film Festival. Currently, Jack lives in Port Townsend and performs weekly with the Dwyer Family Band at Aldrich' Market in Uptown. He also plays the guitar and fiddle.

Jack is offering bluegrass banjo lessons in the Scruggs and Keith styles, and mandolin lessons on bluegrass, old-time, dawg, blues and jazz to students of all ages and playing experience.

We'll work on learning traditional tunes, playing by ear, improvising in various styles and genres, developing good right and left hand techniques and discovering your personal style as a musician.

He continued his studies through two years of music college and subsequently performed, recorded, and taught professionally in the classical, jazz, and rock fields, in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, California.

Mr. Graham's approach to the teaching of classical guitar is based firmly in the Segovia tradition, with an emphasis on proper technique and cultivation of an informed, intelligent musicality.

Brian Ellard

Fiddle

I am interested in giving lessons on how to play fiddle--my style. I have been playing the fiddle since 1971. Playing in public since I was 15 years old.

What I teach is not so much theory but more style of play, meaning I will show you how to play certain types of runs and slides and how to play more by ear, along with other people or just to have fun by yourself.

RATE: $17.50 for 45 min or I can work with your particular needs.
